How to Write a Neutron Beamtime Proposal... and be Successful!

The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, located at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, is a premier facility for research in the physical and life sciences, managed by the Science and Technology Facilities Council, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). It generates neutron and muon beams that enable scientists to investigate materials at the atomic level using highly specialized instruments, often referred to as ‘super-microscopes’. These non-destructive experiments yield unique insights unattainable by other methods, serving over 2,000 researchers in fields such as physics, chemistry, materials science, geology, engineering, and biology. The center aims to leverage neutron and muon techniques to enhance knowledge and improve lives, while leading advancements in the development and application of related science and technology. This workshop, organized by Dr. Mariela Nolasco from Aveiro University, focuses on providing Ph.D. and Master’s students, professors, and researchers with the knowledge and skills needed to apply for neutron beamtime at major international facilities.
